Goodbye My Good Friend

This weekend, I had the honor of going to the wake of one of my writing mentors.
When I first became a member of the RWA (Romance Writers of America), I joined our state's local chapter, Windy City Romance Writers. At my very first meeting, I met Fredricka, who was so welcoming and made me feel like a proper writer. She was small, mighty, to the point, and had a wealth of knowledge. Not only with writing, but with computers; she was a whiz.
Fredricka helped me with the book of my heart and gave me honest feedback (which I truly wanted). She taught me how to format my manuscript. I still have my notes under my keyboard, so I never forget. She was a fierce friend and critique partner, and she held us all accountable for our writing. I would never have written my first novella without her help and encouragement.
At the wake, I met her beautiful family and learned so much about her I never knew. She brought so much light to so many people besides me. I will miss her and hear her telling me, "Keep writing; you can't edit a blank page."
My dear friend, I will miss you!
Happy reading!
Kat
