Strong Women

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

~ Eleanor Roosevelt

One of the many memories with my daughters was Friday night date night. Their dad worked Friday nights so I wanted to make our night special. Thankfully, the Disney Channel had Friday night movie premieres or a new release on DVD. (Again, dating myself. And my daughters.) I made finger foods while they took their baths, and we vegged out in our jammies and watched the newest movie. As they got older, Meg Cabot's Princess Diaries came out. My daughters loved how Mia became a princess. What I got from the movie was the Eleanor Roosevelt quote. Also, Pink's song "I am Super Girl.” My youngest was just a baby, and I would help her stand on my lap with her arms up and sing I am Super Girl.

As for the quote, I wrote it down and posted it on the refrigerator to remind them they were special. My husband and I told our daughters to be the best person they could be, and no one could take that away from them. When I look back, sometimes when I quoted Eleanor Roosevelt, I did get a few eye rolls. But, overall, I think the lesson stuck.

I believe in being the best version of yourself and showing it to the world. How can you be authentic with others if you cannot be true to yourself? Putting yourself and your skills out in the world takes courage. To all the women out there, You are a Super Girl. For all the men, You are a Super Boy. So go out and show the world your authentic self.
